Two-story home exterior in Middle Tennessee maintained by Three Stone

Residential Painting

Find the best paint
for your home.

Your paint is the first thing anyone sees. It sets the impression, drives curb appeal, and moves resale value. We help you choose the right color and the right product — then apply it so it lasts.

Interior

Bring the inside back to life.

Repainting your walls is one of the highest-return things you can do to a house. Our interior painters meet or surpass project expectations — and these are the questions worth thinking through before you pick a color.

Are there rules for choosing colors?

Take into account the existing elements in the room that already have a color, the size and amount of light in the room, and what the room will actually be used for.

Can you make my wood look better?

In most cases, yes. Trim suffers from everyday living — dings, dents, holes, and peeling paint, especially on door frames and baseboards. We sand down the current layer to de-gloss and remove failed material, fill damage with wood filler, sand until it blends, prime, and the surface is ready for paint.

What sheen should I use?

The higher the sheen, the more wipeable and cleanable the surface, and the longer it lasts. The trade-off: higher sheens highlight texture and wall anomalies, and colors read differently than they do in a flat finish because the sheen bounces and focuses light.

Exterior

Curb appeal that survives a Tennessee summer.

Our exterior painters work with you through every step — from color consultation to paint selection to the final inspection. As the job progresses we consult with you and make adjustments or touch-ups as needed.

When is it time to repaint?

Wood siding and trim should be recoated about every five years. Stucco can go longer if the surface is not showing extensive cracking. Stained siding or shingles should be redone roughly every three years to keep the wood sealed and prevent graying.

Do I have lead paint?

The EPA assumes any home built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, and RRP certification requires contractors to treat it that way. Three Stone is a Certified Lead Renovator through the EPA.

How will my landscaping be protected?

Plants are covered with lightweight materials and uncovered at the end of each day. Some can be gently pulled back from the house; landscaping should be trimmed back before the job begins to give the crew clearance.

Our process

Six steps. Skip one and it shows.

A fresh coat of paint is more than a color on a wall — it is a transformation, and it only lasts if the prep underneath it was done properly. Our crews follow every step of this process to the letter.

01

Cleaning

A quality paint job requires a clean surface. Exteriors get power washed to remove loose paint, debris, and dirt; interiors get wiped down for adhesion. Loose paint is scraped and surfaces sanded before any color goes on.

02

Masking

Windows and trim that will not be painted are masked off. Furniture and belongings are removed or covered with tarps before we start.

03

Repairs & Caulking

Drywall, patio, and stucco texture repairs are completed first. Cracks around windows, doors, and fascia are caulked to seal the envelope.

04

Primer

Every exterior gets primer before paint to create an adhesive surface. This step is where long-lasting finishes are won or lost.

05

Painting

Paint is applied both vertically and horizontally for full coverage, including trim, metal, garage and entry doors. Interiors: ceilings sprayed first, then two coats on walls.

06

Clean Up & Inspection

Coverings, masking, and chips are removed. Your crew foreman inspects the work against our standard before we ask you to sign off.

Leave the details to us

A perfect surface every time.

Skipping even one step in this process leaves you with an inferior paint job. Our crews use top-quality equipment, quality paint, and proven techniques for a flawless finish. For your next painting project, leave the details to Three Stone.

Painting pairs naturally with the rest of what we do. If the siding needs replacing or the roof is at end of life, bundling the work means one project manager, one mobilization, and a sequence that does not have painters working around a tear-off.

Painting questions

How often should a home exterior be repainted?

Wood siding and trim should be recoated about every five years. Stained siding or shingles need attention roughly every three years to keep the wood sealed and prevent graying. Stucco can go longer if the surface is not cracking.

How long does it take to paint a whole house?

A typical 1,000 square foot home with a moderate amount of paint failure and a simple color scheme takes about two weeks with a two-person crew. Larger homes and heavy prep add time.

Is Three Stone certified for homes with lead paint?

Yes. The EPA assumes homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint. Three Stone is a Certified Lead Renovator through the EPA and follows RRP-compliant containment practices.
